Finished Series “The Law” by Pastors Dan and Sarah (video & notes)
Finished Series “The Law” – by: Pastors Dan and Sarah
Today we start a new series titled “Finished”.
We will be looking at the finished work of Jesus through his life, death, and resurrection.
What did Jesus mean when He said “It is Finished”?
Our thoughts probably first go to a scripture like
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Most everyone would agree that Jesus’ finished work on the cross is about the born again experience. But it is about much more.
Today…talk about how the law was finished.
(Law vs. Grace)
John 1:17 (NKJ)
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
This is what law looks like…
- List of commands
- Sin Consciousness
- Demanded righteousness
- Favor had to be Earned
This is what grace looks like…
- New approach – life of love
- God Consciousness
- Demand for righteousness was met through the finished work of the cross
“finished” rendered “the debt is paid in full”
- Salvation cannot be earned, it is received as a gift of grace
- His power changes us from the inside out…we become new in Him
(Right Standing with God – Sacrifice Required)
Under the law when man sinned, they had to find a perfect lamb with no defects.
The lamb was brought to the priest.
The priest examined the lamb to make sure the lamb was not defective.
The priest would tell the sinner to lay his hands on the lamb’s head so his sin would transfer to the lamb.
Notice He had to lay his hands on the lamb by faith. He believed that God did an exchange.
The sinner believed and the priest believed.
The lamb received the sin of the man.
And the man received the innocence of the lamb.
The lamb had to die for the exchange to take place.
The man goes totally free.
This was all done by faith.
All this under the law was pointing to Jesus, who was to come and be the perfect lamb and the final sacrifice.
ILLUSTRATE: Grace under Jesus
John 1:29
…John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Before you and I were born, God prepared this plan for Jesus to go to the cross for us.
The blood of Jesus removes sin – past, present, and future, when we receive His gift of salvation.
Hebrews 10:17
…”Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
A great exchange happened when Jesus took on our sin, and we took on His righteousness.
Eph 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God…
So, what was finished on the cross?
The law given by Moses was finished.
Grace was given through Jesus Christ!!!
If everything is finished, why do we have such a mess in the world?
Many people have not learned to apply the finished work to their lives.
John 10:10 – the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give us life, and life _______ _______ (more abundantly)
The devil’s greatest nightmare is when we learn what God has provided through the finished work of the cross.
You see, ignorance is the greatest hindrance for believers.
What you need was already provided 2,000 years ago through Jesus finished work.
Now by faith, access what’s been provided.
A miracle in the making
We received a phone call last week regarding a sister that was going in for surgery and only given 20% chance to make it out of the surgery. We prayed together and continued to press in for this miracle in the making. Remember, a miracle starts with a problem…this was a big problem, so a big miracle was in order. We believed God and encouraged others to join in, in prayer. Here is the text message that we received after the operation was completed.

She made it out of surgery with no complications. She is healed and whole in Jesus name! Thank you for your prayers. God is good!

WE EXIST FOR EACH OTHER
(1 Corinthians 12: 14-21, 26-27 NLT)” Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”

Nothing needed, sir – testimony

One of the men in our church was going in for surgery, and we were all praying. Prayer team, January prayer groups, and pastors were all pressing in to see this miracle some to pass. As the man went in for his last minute check up, he was told that they couldn’t find anything. They couldn’t find the issue that they were going to operate on.
This is an email that we received from someone close to him:
Thank you all for praying for him everything came out well. He is out of the hospital thanks to God!!! The Healer was by his bed !..thank you Jesus!
